Team Solent Kestrels improved to 4-0 in NBL Division 2 league play on Saturday evening as they handed Essex Rebels II a 104-57 defeat. The win is Kestrels 4th consecutive victory on the road in all competitions and the 3rd consecutive 100+ point performance for Coach Matt Guymon squad.

Greg Durand led the scoring charge with 20 points on an efficient shooting display whilst Russ Gariepy added 18, however it was Andre Arissol who filled up the box score with 15 points, 10 assists, 8 steals and 6 rebounds.

TSK wasted no time in asserting their dominance on the game as they flew out to a 14-0 head start behind 7 Greg Durand points. Former Kestrels junior and Itchen College product Tony Idiata Mendez got Essex off the mark at the 5 minute mark and eventually they would cut the gap to 7 at 18-11. Kestrels closed the first period on a 10-2 run to take a 28-13 advantage after one.

A 6-2 run to open the second quarter pushed the Kestrels lead to 19 as Durand his free scoring spree. The sides traded scores for a 3 minute period before Rebels cut the gap to 13 points at 38-25, forcing a Coach Guymon timeout. Ash Briggs scored 4 straight out of the timeout followed by an Isa Brandon finish inside, to restore Kestrels’ 19 point lead. Rebels cut the gap to 16 before back to back TSK scores saw them take a 52-32 into the interval.

Kestrels pretty much ended the game as a contest with an 11-2 run to open the second half forcing an early timeout for the Rebels, with the scoreline now at 63-34. The hosts responded from the foul line out of the time out before another 7-0 run for TSK further extended the deficit to 33. Both teams found easy scores through the back end of the quarter, however Kestrels were still firmly in charge 82-46.

A 14-0 scoring run for TSK, saw them hold the home side scoreless for a 5 minute spell, forcing a number of turnovers which translated into high percentage scoring looks. Kestrels continued to pile on the pressure amassing a huge 70 points in the paint and would go on to take a 104-57 road win over the Essex Rebels II.

Kestrels now return home to the SSC next Saturday evening, for the first time since the season opener, where they will entertain a much improved NASSA side. Tickets are available now for that game as well as up coming home games this side of Christmas.
