Team Solent Kestrels will welcome back Matt Hughes for the 2024/25 season as he suits up for the second consecutive season after his return to the club last year. Hughes who is another TSK/Itchen College development pathway product was a key piece of Coach Guymon’s title challenging squad last time out and he will be looking to go one better this season.
Upon completing his junior pathway playing time with the programme Hughes ventured to Portugal where he would play at Sunlive Academy for a year before returning home to the UK and studying at Northumbria University. During his time in the northeast he would feature for Teeside Lions in NBL Division 3 playing a big role for Coach Steutel’s side.
His return to the south coast last season saw him slot into the senior side with a wealth of experience now under his belt and he would contribute in a number of areas for TSK, posting averages of 11.1 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.9 apg all whilst shooting over 50% from the field. Perhaps his best outing of the season was in a tense home game vs. Ipswich where he poured in 25 points and 9 rebounds to avoid any upsets on the night.
TSK Head Coach Matt Guymon added, “We’re excited to have Matt return to play for us, it is important to have players that have come through our pathway here at Kestrels/Itchen. Matt provides a consistent scoring threat both on and off the ball for us and I think it will another impactful season for him with us.”
Stay tuned for more player signings coming the rest of this week and as well as the pre season schedule.
