Team Solent Kestrels are excited to announce the Kestrels City League is back for another season of action for the 3rd year in a row, getting underway this weekend.
The KCL as it’s more commonly known has been a staple of our junior programme over the past two seasons, after its introduction in 2022. The aim is to provide a more balanced approach to junior development at the entry level of our club pathway, with a mixture of both technical skill development and live game play in a competitive setting.
The format for the KCL has seen tweaks over the previous two years in an effort to find the optimum level of live play vs. skill acquisition and more importantly fun for all levels! This season will see skill development and introduction of key fundamentals over the first month, during this time the coaching staff will select teams to compete in the City League from November onwards. The split across the month will be 1 week of skill development and 3 weeks of competitive game action for all players involved.
Aging from U12 Boys, U14 Boys through to U16 Boys there are 3 age groups this season that provide opportunity for a wide range of junior players entering our pathway.
TSK Director of Coaching Matt Guymon added; “The KCL has been a real success and provides weekly competition for players that are not part of the clubs national league teams. This year the competition is based over 2 sports halls at SSC which will allow us to cater to even more aspiring young players. The KCL is lead by a number of our National League coaches and in addition to competition, it provides an excellent pathway into the National League set up.”
The action gets underway this evening with U14 Boys from 6pm-7.30pm before the U16 Boys take the floor at 7.30pm-9pm, with the U12 Boys starting up tomorrow morning 9am-10.30am.
