Team Solent Kestrels are excited to announce the pre season schedule for our 2024/25 NBL Division 2 Men’s squad, as they take to the floor across September in preparation for the regular season opener on Saturday 28th September 2024.
Kestrels will welcome Portsmouth Force to the Solent Sports Complex on the 7th September (tickets now on sale) in the 2nd annual Mick Byrne Memorial game. In last season’s inaugural game Kestrels took on the Force for the first time in the clubs (as they are now) history, with TSK escaping the Ravelin Sports Centre victorious after an impressive second half display.
The following weekend will see Kestrels return to the Kit King Trophy (formerly the L Lynch Trophy), a tournament that saw Kestrels take home silverware in its first season back in 2020/21. TSK will host local rivals Reading Rockets in the opening group game on Saturday 14th September, before travelling to Barking Abbey the following day. The final group game will be across the south coast as Kestrels take on Worthing Thunder on Saturday 21st September 7:30pm.
TSK Club Director Matt Bishop added, "The off-season has been a busy one for the club and we’re delighted to see so many young players who have developed through the programme move on to excellent opportunities and basketball programmes in the UK, Europe and the US. Yes it’s sad to see players leave but it’s a testament to our coaches and pathway to prepare our players for the next step.
With this we also welcome new players, one returning to the club and some who have come up from the age groups and again we’re excited for another great season. Our Mens season sets off with a match up against locals Portsmouth Force in an annual match set up to honour the legend that was Micky Byrne. We then are delighted to of been invited to join the Kit King Trophy and will have D1 opposition back at the SSC the week after. It’s a great warm up for our first NBL league game and we’re looking forward to welcoming the Kestrels Family back to the SSC!'
Tickets are now on sale for both the Portsmouth and Reading games.
