BASKETBALL TRIALS WITH THE KESTRELS

24th Apr 2013 : The Solent Kestrels run teams for boys in the England Basketball League at Under 12s, 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s and 18s and have just completed a successful first season in EBL Division 3 with a new Men's team.

The club is holding its Trials for next season's teams on Saturday June 8th 2013 for basketball players of all abilities from beginner to elite.

If you play basketball and live in Portsmouth, Southampton, Guildford, Andover, Salisbury, Winchester, Basingstoke, Eastleigh, Bournemouth, Bognor or anywhere in the south then come to the trials at Quilley School, Chestnut Road, Entrance, Eastleigh, SO50 5EL, entry fee £3.

Kestrels U18 men strive for final 4 spot

17th Apr 2010 : Solent Kestrels U18 men travel to Sheffield today (3pm tip) to battle it out for a spot in the national final fours. Kestrels have a fully fit squad for the trip to Sheffield Junior Sharks, who finished 2nd in their Premier North division with a 16-4 record. The match will take place at Springs leisure centre Hurlfield Road, Sheffield S12 2SF.

Details of the result will be available later today.

Solent Kestrels U18 men make it to last eight in the Country

11th Apr 2010 : A tricky away fixture to Conference winners Barnet Bulldogs brought Solent Kestrels U18 mens team one step closer to a national title, in their effort to emulate the heroics of the club's U15 team who secured their first National title 2 weeks ago. The U18s overcame the Bulldogs 101-77 in an energy packed game to secure themselves a mouthwatering away tie v Sheffield Sharks on either Saturday 17th or Sunday 18th April. The Club will be arranging a minibus to see the game. Details of the fixture and how to book a place on the bus will be posted later together with a full match report.

Evangel Christian wins Conference Championship - Chris gets All - Conference

1st Mar 2010 : Chris Evans and Stefan Greer from last years Under 18s played and won the Conference Championship at Evangel Christian High School in Virginia USA and Chris was named to the All- Conference Team.

Chris's Coach said that 'Chris has been outstanding this season' and that he had 'Universities that are very interested in him'

15th Nov 2009 : Solent Kestrels U18 premier men have been given a walkover by conference team London Spartans after their facility was unfit to play. Their scheduled 2nd round fixture was due to take place on Sunday 15th November.

The walkover gives Solent a home 3rd round fixture against either Kingston or Haringey on Sunday 13th December.

U18 premier squad look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season

29th Oct 2009 : Solent Kestrels under 18 premier squad look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season in both cup and league with a home fixture against recently improving Medway Park Crusaders, (5pm tip-off at Quilley on Saturday 31st October). After early losses to Taunton and Bristol, the Kent outfit have put together back to back wins against Brentwood and a 29 point victory against last years national runners up, Hackney. Both squads have progressed to the second round of the National cup with comfortable wins over Sevenoaks and Guildford last weekend. Nevertheless it is the Solent outfit who currently stand top of the Premiership (South) Division. They are one of only 4 teams in the country with an unbeaten premiership record and Solent will be fiercely defending that record this weekend with a fully fit and available squad from which to choose.

4th May 2009 : "The whole of the U18 premier team and coaches would like to thank all
travelling supporters for making the trip up to RAF Cosford yesterday to
support our effort to become national champions. We are all really
disappointed not to have done better and bring you home the result that the
club and its loyal supporters so deserved. However, what was clear to us is
that we have the best supporters of junior basketball in the country with
over 100 fans making the trip. Thanks you once again - see you at
presentation night. The U18 Premier Squad."

4th May 2009 : Over 100 supporters drove all the way to Telford last weekend to support the under 18's prem team in the final fours.

The atmosphere they brought with them was electric.

The committee would like to thank you all for attending, it was a fantastic display of support.

The team finished 4th overall and provided the supporters with two nail biting games.

Well done to all the supporters and players, the club are proud of you all.

It has been brought to my attention by the Head Teacher & other members of the Senior Leadership Team of Woodlands Community School that Solent Kestrel users are still driving down to the Sports Hall to park, drop off / pick up users.

I have informed them that a request had already been asked for this to stop, so they have requested that I STRONGLY ask you NOT to drive down to the Sports Hall for Health & Safety reasons but to use the car park.

Woodlands have CCTV in operation at the school and are threatening to permanently terminate the hire of our facilities if any Kestrels users are observed ignoring the ban. more..

2nd Sep 2008 : The Solent Kestrels would like to say Good Luck to Will Neighbour and Tom Mann who are of out to America in the next few days to attend High Schoool for a year followed by College/University.
Will and Tom have been members of the Solent Kestrels Junior programme for a while -with Tom joining us at a U16 age group and Will the U14 age group - they both have worked very hard this last year to get to where they want to be and I wish them all the best out in the States.

Tom will be travelling to a High School in California were he will join Tom Fox from Manchester.

Under 12s win CVL League Trophy at Bracknell

9th May 2008 : The Kestrels Under 12s won a nail biting 15-13 victory against Spelthorne Atoms tonight to bring home the CVL Trophy.The Kestrels opened the scoring with a made free throw from big Ed Launchbury-Clarke and when they went 4-0 up shortly afterwards when Benjy Kirkman was fouled on a lay-up and made the and 1 play, the Spelthorne coach was forced to call an early time-out.

After knocking out Southampton Trailblazers, Reading Rockets and Essex and Herts Leopards, Solent Kestrels completed the job against an improving East London Royals squad on Sunday at Quilley School of Engineering, Eastleigh to earn a place in the National Surehot cup final at the Amaechi Basketball Centre in Manchester on the 17^th February 2008.

Next Friday the u12's and u16's have a game at Bracknell.

U16's Game at 8pm

The U12's will be selected by Jodi and a phone call will be made to you during the next few days.

The U16's names will appear here over the next couple of days.

There will be a change in the team that went to the last game.........so unless your name appears in the team selected for next Friday you will not be needed and I will see you at training on the 18th Jan.

The Solent Area Youth Leagues will be running again next season and this is a chance for you to practice and earn a little money.

Referees Course will run from 12.30pm til 5.30pm and will be free for all candidates under 18 and the Table Official Course will run from 10.00am - 12.00 noon and will cost £7.50
